Detailed itinerary
Day 1–3: Paro & Thimphu
Arrive in Paro and visit the world-renowned Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery. Transfer to Thimphu for birding excursions in Motithang, Cheri, and Begana, where you may spot species like the Satyr Tragopan and Fire-tailed Myzornis.
Day 4–5: Punakha Valley
Travel to Punakha with birding stops en route. Explore the fertile Punakha Valley and visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, while keeping an eye out for the rare White-bellied Heron.
Day 6–7: Phobjikha Valley
Head to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the Black-Necked Cranes. Enjoy full-day birdwatching in this glacial valley surrounded by pristine nature.
Day 8–9: Trongsa & Bumthang
Continue east to Trongsa, visiting the impressive Trongsa Dzong. Proceed to Bumthang, a valley rich in both monasteries and birdlife.
Day 10–12: Bumthang & Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary (Optional)
Explore the spiritual heartland of Bhutan in Bumthang, visiting monasteries and birdwatching along rivers and forests. Optional excursion to Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary, home to diverse Himalayan species.
Day 13: Return to Paro – Departure
Transfer back to Paro for your international departure, concluding your birding journey through the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
