Detailed itinerary
Day 01: Arrive in Paro
Arrive at Paro, one of the most scenic flights in the world. After lunch, visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong) and Rimpong Dzong, then enjoy a short walk across its traditional wooden bridge. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest
Hike up to the iconic Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff. Lunch at the teahouse with panoramic views. In the afternoon, visit Drukgyel Dzong and other Paro valley sights. Overnight in Paro.
Day 03: Paro – Punakha
Drive over Dochu-La Pass (3,100m) with stunning Himalayan views before descending into Punakha Valley. Visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, where locals gather in colorful attire for the annual festival. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 04: Punakha Festival
Witness the vibrant Punakha Tsechu (festival) with sacred masked dances and rituals. In the afternoon, visit Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility), dedicated to Drukpa Kuenley, the Divine Madman. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 05: Punakha – Phobjikha Valley
Travel to Phobjikha, a serene glacial valley and winter home of the endangered Black-Necked Cranes. Visit Gangtey Monastery and the Crane Information Centre. Overnight in Phobjikha.
Day 06: Phobjikha – Thimphu
Morning hike through the valley and local villages, then drive back over Dochu-La Pass to Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 07: Thimphu Sightseeing
Explore Thimphu’s cultural highlights: National Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Temple, Zilukha Nunnery, and Tashichhodzong. If it’s the weekend, stroll through the lively Thimphu Market. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 08: Thimphu – Paro
Visit the School of Arts & Crafts, National Library, Paper Factory, and Folk Heritage Museum. Optional hike to Tango or Cheri Monastery. Later transfer back to Paro. Overnight in Paro.
Day 09: Departure
Transfer to Paro Airport for your onward journey. Tashi Delek!
