The Snowman Trek is Bhutan’s ultimate high-altitude adventure, spanning 28 days across the most remote and breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas. Beginning in the culturally rich Paro Valley, trekkers ascend through pristine forests, glacial rivers, high alpine pastures, and isolated villages, witnessing some of Bhutan’s most iconic peaks including Jhomolhari, Jitchu Drake, and Gangchenta. This legendary journey offers rare encounters with Bhutanese highland communities, their unique culture, and traditions, as well as the chance to spot extraordinary wildlife such as takin, snow leopards, and black-necked cranes. Traversing multiple high mountain passes above 5,000 meters, trekkers experience the country’s mystical wilderness in its purest form, combining rigorous trekking with spiritual and cultural immersion. The adventure culminates in Paro, where trekkers reflect on an epic journey through one of the most untouched and awe-inspiring regions on Earth.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro
Touch down in Paro and be instantly captivated by the Himalayan panorama. Meet your Bhutanese trekking specialists and transfer to your hotel. Take a leisurely stroll through Paro town before visiting the National Museum, immersing yourself in Bhutanese art, culture, and heritage. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2: Paro Valley & Tiger’s Nest
Step into the serene Paro Valley, framed by snow-capped peaks. Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff. Absorb panoramic views and the spiritual aura of Guru Rinpoche’s sacred resting place. Return to Paro for overnight stay.

Day 3: Trek Commencement – Shana via Drukyel Dzong
Drive to Drukyel Dzong, a 17th-century fortress guarding Bhutan from Tibetan invasions. Continue to Shana, trekking past verdant farms and traditional stone-and-timber houses. Your first camp is at Thondu Zampa with glimpses of Jhomolhari’s majestic 7,314-meter peak.

Days 4–5: Thangthangkha & Jangothang (Base Camp)
Trek through the heart of Jigme Dorji National Park, home to diverse rhododendrons and Himalayan wildlife. Overnight camps at Thangthangkha and Jangothang (4040m), the base of Jhomolhari, offering a close-up encounter with yak herders’ lifestyles and pristine high-altitude landscapes.

Day 6: Acclimatization at Jangothang
Rest and explore the valley or venture toward Nylie La Pass to witness the stunning Tshophu Lake. Acclimatize to the thin air while absorbing the breathtaking surroundings.

Days 7–9: Lingshi, Chebisa & Shomuthang
Ascend Nyile La Pass (4700m) and trek through enchanting high-altitude tundra, past alpine pastures and remote villages. Cross pastures of rhododendron and daphne, cascading waterfalls, and mystical dzongs while camping at Lingshi, Chebisa, and Shomuthang (3960m).

Days 10–12: Robluthang, Lemithang & Laya
Scale Jare La Pass (4750m) and Sinche La Pass (5005m), trekking through glacial valleys and forests. Encounter blue streams, glacial lakes, and the rare takin. Reach Laya village (3700m) and immerse yourself in the unique culture of the Laya people, with their distinctive conical hats and turquoise-adorned attire.

Days 13–15: Laya Valley & Rodophu
Spend a day exploring Laya—meet villagers, visit the local school and temples, and experience traditional life. Continue the trek over steep ascents and dense forests to Rodophu (4070m) and Narethang (4900m), passing through some of Bhutan’s most isolated, untouched landscapes.

Days 16–20: Tarina, Woche, Lhedi & Thanza
Cross Karakachu La (16,465 feet) and trek through the Lunana region, navigating challenging passes, rivers, and meadows. Camp in pristine valleys while witnessing glaciers, mountain streams, and unique highland flora and fauna. Take a rest day in Thanza to fully absorb the remote wilderness.

Days 21–26: Tshochena, Jichudramo, Chukarpo & Maurothang
Traverse Rinchen Zoe La, the trek’s highest pass (5326m), cross alpine plateaus, dense forests, and sparkling lakes. This segment showcases the untouched beauty of Bhutan’s northern frontiers, offering encounters with snow leopards, blue sheep, and glacial wonders. Descend through Nikka Chhu to end the trek in Gangtey.

Days 27–28: Return to Paro & Farewell
Drive back to Paro, revisiting the town, the majestic Paro Dzong, and the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang monastery. Share a farewell breakfast, celebrating the successful completion of one of the world’s most challenging and legendary treks.
